Dear Crabby,
It's been way too long since I have been there, and now that I am pregnant! I can no longer ignore the hunger pains I have been feeling for those fish tacos. My husband and I will be there later this afternoon for a little late lunch date. I love how fresh all of your dishes are, how clean the restaurant is, and of course the friendly staff, that includes you too Mike! See you soon. Jay
Dear Jay,
Congratulations!!! I'll be looking forward to seeing you...no more roller derby aye....

An Armenian and an Asian walked into the Cracked Crab….
Seriously they did last week while on business.
The chain-smoking duo, often mistaken for mafia, opted to coosh their cigarettes out long enough to enjoy what they described to be the tastiest crab meal ever savored in their lives. The tall angry looking Armenian and short angrier looking Asian (ok he’s really Thai) shared with me a copy of your menu, a souvenir from their bountiful feasting experience, butter-stains and all. Beating crabs with mallets as I understand is part of the ambiance in your establishment, but for these guys it was just another day on the job except this time they wiped cleaned the butter and crab juice from their hands and not the usual blood, egos and tears….. But they liked it, rather, they loved it. They even smiled as they shared their experience with me, but no one is supposed to know that.
They will be back. Don’t be surprised if they bring their own bigger mallets.
Anonymous
Dear Anonymous,
Please don't tell me any more...I don't want to know.
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby.
I used to have my life and appointments scheduled out for weeks in advance. Now if someone asks, "How about lunch next Thursday and where would you like to go?", I have to ask them if I can wait and answer them on a day to day basis after I have logged onto your website each morning to see if those seafood enchiladas are going to be featured. People think I am flaky now and are dropping out of my life.
Dear Leslie,
My chef felt SO BAD for you that he put them on the menu for tomorrow... 05 24 10 REALLY. check it out. I kinda think you are flaky, but not dropping out of your life... part of me really likes you...
Crabby
Dear CrAbby,
I keep logging on to your website every day to see if you are offering those seafood enchiladas on your menu. It's become a fixation with me and affecting my relationships. What can I do?
Leslie
Dear Leslie,
I am interested in how it is affecting your relationships...

Dear CrAbby
Today is May 22, 2010. Being that our 18th Anniversary is tomarrow, my husband & I were discussing our options on what to do...I brought up Splash, which we always visit, 5-6 times a year, but he brought up the idea of your resturant. After looking at your Dear Crabby letters (which I am very impressed with by the way) & reviewing the menu, I do believe that we will be headed your way for lunch/dinner tomarrow. I hope that you live up to your reputation... Looking forward to a great 18 year Anniversary...See you tomarrow afternoon sometime...btw, being that it is a Sunday, should we make reservations? We are driving 2 hours away, for hopefully a wonderful experience.
Shannon
Dear Shannon,
Thank you for your compliments on my Dear CrAbby letters. We do not take reservations, it's walk in only. But do try our clam chowder, it is actually made from scratch, unlike the other restaurant you named. Happy anniversary.
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby
Please note.....I am turning 39 not 29 although I did stall at 29 for awhile.
Sir Davo is serving me coconut rum sunrises!!
I have may have one too many because my dog is starting to do Nixon impressions....is that wrong?
Dear Kelly,
See why I should turn my computer off on the weekends? 39 mmmm, Have Sir Davo fly you to Pismo!!!!!
Is your dog a crook?
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby
My name is Kelly and I will be turning 39 next. I was wondering, what advice do you have for someone turning 39 and what did you do for your 39th birthday?
PS. Your juicy buckets are crabalicious!!
Dear Kelly,
I didn’t go back through my archives, because I’m drinking, but I swear you have turned 29 several years in a row now… Just drink until you pass out and dance with anybody that will. I don’t remember what I did… but I think intimacy was involved… hhmmm, what was her name….?
CrAbby
Dear crabby we love the place. My wife and i were in on saturday and had a great time loved the food and the service was great Jason took time to talk with us at the bar while we ate even when he was busy you better watch out he's gonna run that place someday. Again thanks for everything
Dear Jesse,
Glad you enjoyed it all and thanks for the compliments. Jason can have it all for the right price!!!
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby
I love ceab!!! I used to work for Mike and Kathy Lee for a little over two years. What a wonderful two and a half years it was. Ever since then I have raved about the Cracked Crab and the great food. The freshest I have ever had. I am bringing a big group of friends and family to eat there this friday and I am so exited. I made sure to call ahead to let them know about my big party on friday ( and my big appetite). Of course I asked to speak with Dave, and when he told me the whole King Crab would be available.... I almost passed out on the phone. I emediatly came to the web site to look at old pictures and of course the "daily menu". I cant explain the great feeling I get knowing I'm going to visit this old atmosphere I miss so much. Also to share it with all my friends and family. So I hope your ready for a wild bunch this Friday, beacause I'm ready to eat myself sick and wash it down with some of the best wine on the central coast. SEE YOU THEN MIKE AND KATHY
Stephanie
Dear Stephanie,
Oh boy...
CrAbby
p.s. your email doesn't work: "Delivery to the following recipients has been delayed."
Do you have a dessert menu?
Well not a menu because we change up depending on what is in season; you know fresh berries in the summer, apples, pears and pumpkin in the fall etc…
Right now we have a fresh key lime pie (all year); Chocolate chip cookie pie (usually); Apple/pear cobbler; Cheesecake (flavor or toppings change); ALL made from scratch in house. We also offer Doc Bernstein’s vanilla bean ice cream, a local very high quality ice cream maker.
CrAbby
Hi Crabby!
I spent a few short months working there is Pismo 4 years ago and luckily found your yummy and fun restaurant! I will be driving over there next Monday or the following one and bringing a friend, I am hoping to not let her actually see the menu and getting to see that shocked look on her face when you dump it all on the table! :) I know my son and I were flabbergasted the first time it happened to us! Can't wait to see you!
Stay Crabby! :)
Dear Gina,
Just tell her you will order for her. May I suggest the Big Bucket with King Crab, Bairdi Crab and Dungeness Crab!!! Enjoy.
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby,
My family visited you today from Murrieta. We had a wonderful lunch. The buckets were amazing. The service was fantastic. And the oysters on the half shell were, by far, the best we have ever had!!! We had an order as an appetizer...then had to order another for dessert! YUM! Can't wait to see you again, on our next visit to Pismo!
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for writing!
CrAbby
Tonight was my first visit to your fine establishment; and I stress fine establishment!!!! This was the best crab feast experience my family and I have ever had. The crab was perfect, the way we ate it, my girls couldn't get enough of the fact they could make a mess...and the staff is awesome!!! Today was my birthday and the waitress even brought me out the best vanilla ice cream I have ever had. There aren't enough stars to apply to your rating...My only sadness was I couldn't get a mixed drink with my meal, beer and wine only, and I love a pina colada while on vacation! Also getting caught in the rain....til next time Crabby, I will be thinking of you with very, very fond memories!
nisha
Dear nisha,
Thanks for all the compliments. Yeah, I go to the bar across the street before eating here!
CrAbby
dear crabby, I visit pismo alot in the last (5) years and even stayed a week for christmas. I read your 'dear crabby' letters and really enjoy them and yes i have read your menu but i have never been to your resturaunt. we, (my daughters and i) love crab and shrimp and would love to try yours but the problem is my husband, he doesn't care what we spend on a meal as long as it is good and we enjoy ourselfs, the problem is , he kinda gets alittle weezy to his stomach when he see's us or anyone else eat anything out of the shell.he does want to try your restaurant though, maybe have a steak or somthing. he said he will be o.k if we order crab legs but i know he just wants us to have a nice time. is there any suggestions you can give us? we will be staying (2) weeks in pismo this christmas and can't wait to come by for lunch/dinner. I will take your advice and not order the soft shell crab, i have never tryed it and i don't think its fair for you to have to foot th!
e cost. thank-you see ya soon, peggy
Dear Peggy,
Well as I see it you have several options, and of course I'll help you in any way I can because I'm just so darn nice.
1. You can leave him at the hotel and take him a steak to go.
2. We can seat him at a different table, although people around him most probably will be cracking crab.
3. If that’s the case we can seat him out back in our employee eating area.
4. You can order crab items already shelled like 1)crab cocktail 2)crab cakes 3)King crab medallions 4)crab stuffed chile 4)crab Luis salad 5)crab melt
5. NO WE WONT SHELL THE CRAB IN BACK FOR YOU!
Hope to see ya soon
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby,
We are headed to Pismo on Thursday, 3/25 from the middle of nowhere, aka Ridgecrest, to celebrate our daughter's 25th Birthday. We are looking forwarding to dining on your fantastic food again. We have a party of 7, can you advise a good time for us to try and avoid some of the crowds?
Dear Ole 9 Toes:
Earlier is always better. The "normal" dinner period fore most people is 6:00 to 8:30. Bring your cell phone and you can wait in the bar across the street, we'll call you if there is a wait.
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby
Spent the weekend up in Pismo and loved eating at your establishment. We saw on the wall that you had a recipe for your crab bisque soup. I can't find it...where can I go to get a copy of it? Would love to try to recreate the magic of the weekend!
thanks julee
Dear Julie
We no longer give out the bisque recipe. We have changed it and plan to Jar it, which doesn't allow us to share it. The one on the wall is no longer in use, but may work for you.
Part of jarring it is that we are not allowed to give out the recipe, plus it involves VERY high flame, and yes we will ship, however, we are a year or two away from jarring.
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby,
A friend and I had enjoyed a scrumptous dinner at your restaurant last weekend. It was one of the best meals we have ever eaten, and we have managed to eat our way through multitudes of restauants. Super waitress too! I'd love the recipe for the Crab Bisque. I should have copied it from the article in the hallway, but didn't. :)
Thanks for the terrific dinner and the great service!
Sherri
Dear Sherry,
We no longer give out the bisque recipe. We have changed it and plan to Jar it, which doesn't allow us to share it. The one on the wall is no longer in use, but may work for you.
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby,
I wanted to say what a great place you guys have. I have come to eat at Cracked Crab every time we are in Pismo Beach. It is the one spot we HAVE to eat at when we go. I am looking forward to having your bucket for two when we visit Pismo Beach at the end of Feb. We will be celebrating our 8th anniversary! Thanks for making us feel so welcomed and comfortable each and every time we go.
I did not know much about crab before these trips but I can say that I have a new found love for crab and drawn butter....yummy! I love the fact that your staff was always so helpful and willing to teach us what to do and what would be best to order.
Thanks again and we will see you in 3 very short weeks....can't wait!
Dear Allison,
Thanks for the kind words, let me know when you will be here!
Dear CrAbby,
Growing up in Washington state with a lot of fisherman from my howetown I was spoiled with great seafood. Until I found the Cracked Crab I didn't think California could compare.
My wife and I have been enjoying your fine establishment since we first started dating and will celebrate our 3 year anniversary with you tonight.
Pismo Beach is always worth the drive for the best seafood in SoCal. Thanks for many years of delicious dinners!
Travis
P.S. Sorry for eating your family.
Sorry I didn't get this e-mail until a day later, happy anniversary! How was dinner?
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby, I can't wait to come back to your restaurant! I'll be there on Wednesday, 12/30/09 with my Mom and Dad. I'll be the 12 year old boy with a Crab Hat...it's cool! See you then!
Crabbily yours,
Aaron
Cool, I'll see ya then.
CrAbby
Hi CrAbby,
I love your restaurant! I found you a couple of years ago, so glad I did. The best crab on the West Coast! Well worth the price. I try to make it up during the summer and any other time I can. I have since introduced my parents to your fine establishment. My dad loves to find cozy, friendly eateries. We ate there in May. He loves your Alaskan crab legs. The best he has ever had! I will be in on Dec. 30 with my sister and her kids (seven of us) for dinner. Can't wait. She lives in NM and loves crab. The kids do also. See you Weds!
Cheree
Dear Cheree,
Sorry for the first blank message... too much Pinot! I will give the hostess a "heads up" that you will be arriving. Let us know for sure how many and exact time!!!
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby,
We are headed from the Central Valley this weekend and are really looking forward to dining with you again this weekend. I hope you have a dolly available to roll us out after we enjoy another meal with you..
Jeff, Marietta, Jay and Victoria...
Dear J, M, J, V:
We just got new tires put on our dolly...good to go.
CrAbby
Hello there Crabby,
Just found your website and I want to tell you how excited I am about getting some of that Alaskan Crab....fresh(not previously frozen)I hope. I am from NH and my wife and I(along with a couple in laws) will be making a venture from Santa Barbara to San Fran in mid Oct. It will be our first trip to California and we love seafood and can't wait to measure up our local lobster to your stuff. Don't really have any experience with the fresh crab you offer...so looking for your ideas on what to select from your Alaskan product and local stuff to fill our bucket with. We occasionally get some frozen Alaskan crab legs here and I love them so I can only imagine how good your stuff will be! We will be there Sunday Oct 18th for lunch, on our way to stay around the Hearst Castle for the night. Look forward to our visit with you.
Fred
Dear Fred,
Let me give you a brief lesson in crab. If you ever watched the Deadliest Catch you will see they are only out on the Bearing Sea from four to six weeks or so. The rest of the year the season is closed. That means during season (October, November) is the only time you can get "fresh" king crab in the lower 48. Now that said I've been to Dutch Harbor twice and out on the bearing sea to observe (and catch crab) and watched as they brought thousands of pounds of crab in for processing. I then hand pick which plant, boat, and quality I buy. We buy thousands of "processed" crab at a time, and only the highest hand picked quality. Last year we bought exclusively from the F/V Time Bandit. I've been on the F/V Cornelia Marie and F/V Artic Sea, all have excellent product and if processed the right way you can't get better!
Now, the "process" that they go through seals in the fresh flavor and creates a fine layer of ice around the shell so the freezing air NEVER touches the meat! Unless you live in Alaska and have crab caught that day, this is the "freshest" and finest crab you will ever taste. I followed the crab through the whole plant process and was amazed how they go from alive to packed in a box to be shipped in minutes, VERY FRESH!!!
A word of caution, when purchasing crab ask where it is from. If they say Russia, walk away. The only king crab I buy is Alaskan King Crab from a select processing plant in Dutch Harbor, Alaska.
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby,
My hubby and I will be there on Aug 20 (staying at the Cliffs). We've been there before and are totally stoked to be able to enjoy the fine fare again! (I actually posted a review on my website last time.) Really looking forward to it and see ya soon!
Sharky
Dear Sharky,
The Cliffs are very nice! Be sure to say hi when here!
CrAbby
Hi my husband and I will be staying at the cliff resort Aug 15-19. We are planning to make you our first stop. I'm concerned there will be a long wait between 12-1pm Sat the 15th. Can you give me a estimate. Thank's save me some crab!!!!!!
Dear whoever you are, or is it whomever? Whatever.
The Cliffs are nice! I hope there is a long wait!!! I'll have crab.
CrAbby
Hi~
Can you please tell me what kind of beer you serve?
Thank you,Trish
Dear Trish,
Cold.
CrAbby
My sister and I make a journey down every few months to visit our dad in SLO who is in a home now. We stay there in Pismo and LOVE your place. The first time we were there I had told her about the buckets since a friend of mine had one earlier. My sister about blew a cork when she saw your staff huck the full bucket on the table. We are arriving Sunday the 2nd and cannot wait to get to you. AND once I saw a guy in town here (Santa Rosa) wearing a CC tshirt. I tried to start a conversation with him about what a great place it is and he just mumbled something and walked away. I don't think he is Cracked Crab material and should surrender the shirt. Just sayin'. Love ya!!!
Anne
Dear Anne,
Maybe that was me.
CrAbby
Was there last weekend and loved the food and the service. The waiter said we could find the recipe for crab bisque on your website. I don't see the link. Can you send it?
Thanks!
Actually we don't give that recipe out because it is VERY hard to make and involves a big flame when igniting the sherry.
Sorry,
CrAbby
I was googling for restaurants in the San Luis Obispo area and got you. After reading all the wonderful reviews, I am now so excited to dine there. We will be there on August 13..can't wait for the seafood to get dumped on my table.
See ya then,
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby,
I am from Bakersfield just like 25% of Pismo in the hot summer months. I love to eat at the Cracked Crab. My kids love to hit each other with the wooden crab hammers. That's probably why they do so good in school. Brain damage from being hit in the head so often. Can't wait for my trip to visit you this weekend. We'll be eatting there Sunday August 1st for sure. I'm drooling already.
Dear Dana,
They are mallets, not hammers. Poor kids.
CrAbby
local who goes to ur place alot, wondering where you got your surfboard benches out front?
Surfboards By Leon. 805 215 4834.
Dear Crabby,
Absolutely love your food.. And your staff is the best.
I'll see you on July 28th...can't wait.
Dear Jenn,
Thanks, see ya then!
CrAbby
We stop at your restaurant every time we visit Pismo which is quite often. We are actually heading there tomorrow 07/18/09 and will probably be there about 3pm our normal time to avoid the crowds. I am so excited. We change hotels every trip practically but always know where we are heading to eat!! Thanks for the great food and fun!!! Have a great CrAbby Day!
Dear Kelly,
Don't be crabby, you're at the beach!
CrAbby
The Pink Flamingos Motorcycle Club - based in Phoenix, Arizona (but with Chapters in Portland, OR and Cedar Rapids, IA) have frequented your fine establishment on two occasions - most likely without your knowledge as we ususally travel incognito.
On both occasions, we ordered the Big Bucket For Two. We ordered it the first time because it sounded good. We ordered it the second time because it was good the first time.
My question is whether you would consider becoming an official "hangout" site for the Pink Flamingos Motorcycle Club? We mostly ride the open highways singing show tunes while wearing our pink flamingo shirts - but, from time to time, we get hungry and the next time we are heading up the Coast, it would be great to stop by our official "Hangout". There might be a free t-shirt in it for you provided you wear XXL.
Born To Flock,
Flamingo1
Dear Flamingo1,
It would be an honor... Just let me know when y'all will be arriving! But by the time the t-shirt wears out I'll need a XXXl.
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby, Our families will be driving there just to see the place, one family coming from Oakland, the other from San Mateo, and my family from Ripon, CA, and we're looking to stop by restaurant that can seat us all in one whole table. This is a party of 15. Do you have a place for us? We enjoy eating different types of seafood. Also our families would like to order a good bottle(s) of wines to go alone with seafood, specifically crabs. I hope our trip back will be pleasant...because we tried other restaurants,i.e. in Half Moon Bay, it was a disaster and with a pricey tagged. My wife and kids (age 11 &16)love crabs, but for me, beside crabs, I loved a bowl of clam chowder! So, what do you suggest we order when we get there?
Yes we can seat 15, do it all the time, but we don't take reservations. If you call the restaurant with a date, time and amount of people we will seat you as soon as possible.
I suggest you order whatever you like.
CrAbby
Dear Crabby!
We did go and we enjoyed the bucket for 2! I’m madly in love with the Seafood Pasta, can you drive some down here for me? I only live 145 miles away.
Thanks,
Teresa
Dear Teresa,
No.
CrAbby
Love your food, would love it even if my son didn't work there!! Well, I have eaten your fish n chips, chicken, bisque, ect. I am raising my two granddaughters ages 3 and 6, we were in your wonderful food place on thursday, they both decided they wanted to try crab. I am thinking, right....you will try one bite, and then what. Upon the advise of my wonderful son Jason oooops I mean your wonderful server Jason, we got the bucket for one and upgraded to the bin something crab, I know he told me a million times what it was, but forgive me I am old and the first thing to go is memory. Imagine the looks on the girls faces when the food was dumped in the middle of the table. The older one listened intently when Jason showed her how to crack crab. She is amazing, pulls the meat out in one big piece. They both loved it and want to go back for more. My only complaint is the little one can't crack crab, and she ate it as fast as I could crack, so grandma only got a little (the little piggy girls) . So thanks for being a wonderful kid friendly place.I have talked my sister into going there in Sept for our joint birthdays, and she never goes anywhere.
Glad the kids enjoyed it. Now, let me know when just you and your sister will be here so we can get you a GOOD server :)
CrAbby
Crabby,
I do not care if you can not spell, shit I dont care if you can't read or if you speak Cambodian while performing the Macarena when I am dining at your restaurant! As long as you keep serving the best damn crab around, we will continue you to dine there every trip to Pismo we take!! I have eaten crab up and down the west coast and nothing compares to the quality of your dishes. It is an absolute treat to eat at The Cracked Crab and I highly recommend it to anyone with taste buds..
To the people complaining about price, come on if you want bargain seafood go to Long John Silvers and remember you get what you pay for.. The one lady that said her husband would not foot the bill for an anniversary dinner, wow!! I bet if the tractor pulls were in town he would have taken you to that..
Anyone complaining about a wait needs to understand one basic rule, if you walk up to an establishment and they are not busy there is a reason for that.. But if you do not like to wait for quality food go over to the local Carrows on seafood night, you should enjoy your dining experience there.... Lol..
Thank for the great food and times Crabby. See ya tomorrow night (June 6th) we are bring more newbies to try out what we have been raving about the last couple of years..
Fresno Crab Lovers
Deer Crab Lovers,
me no gude at speleeng, me gude at cwality.
Thank You so much for the recognition and understanding what we go through sometimes to bring high quality to the Central Coast. How many people and what time will you be here, oh and a name so I can leave it at the door!
CrAbby
Dear Crabby,
It has been a little over a year since we've eaten there; money has been tight. We live in Tulare and we had been driving over there every several months to eat at your place. Once, my husband even order an order and a half of the king crab. But, the very first time we ate there, my husband ordered the King Crab legs, and I ordered the delicious Halibit dish. Well, I thought it was delicious until he gave me a taste of his crab legs. You had us both hooked. The price was well worth it. Since we both love the king crab legs, we can't go there as often. We've tried King crab legs several other places, but they haven't matched the delicious taste at Cracked Crab???????Anyway, hopefully, some day soon, we could actually stop by instead of driving by and salivating. You still look busy there!!
King Crab Fans
Dear, King Crab Fans,
Yes, it’s expensive crab. Even I don’t eat it very often because of the cost. I could get cheaper stuff, but then it would be just like those other places that aren’t the same. My recent trip to Dutch Harbor Alaska confirmed for me that we have the world best King Crab, and we pay for it.
Most King Crab purchased in the USA is Russian, but they don’t practice sustainable fishing and the process is different. We only use Alaskan from eco-friendly plants. Hope to see you soon.
CrAbby
Dear Crabby,
On our way home to Northern Cali yesterday, my boyfriend and I decided to stop in Pismo to check out your place. We LOVED it! I had the shrimp and crab pasta and it was just excellent! Everything was perfect and cooked just right. We will definitely make the Cracked Crab a regular stop on our way to Southern California from now on.
Quick question. I see that you guys get your crab from the Time Bandit. Any chance theres a website or list somewhere that shows all of the restaurants they, or any of the other DC boats service? In California preffereably.
Thanks a bunch!
Seafood Lover
Dear Seafood Lover,
I’m glad you enjoyed your visit here. I do not know what other restaurants that buy crab from the crews shown on the Deadliest Catch. However if you ask a restaurant where their King Crab comes from, it goes through a company named Unisea in Dutch Harbor. I toured the boats and the plant and hand pick where I buy my crab.
CrAbby
Dear Crabby,
I got Crabs from your restuarant & I loved it :) j.k. I was actually in your restuarant when you guys were trying out your strawberry cobbler for the first time.I was wondering if you guys would put together a recipe book or have reciepes that people could buy cause I certainly LOVE your cobbler. If I didn't live soooo far away I would be in there everyday getting cobbler & crabs.By the way totally advertising for you to ALL my friends.
Signed
In desperation of Cobbler & Crabs
P.S. In reference to your customer that was asking if you guys were barbarians or stupid...I know you would have to edit this but tell them I said go f%#@k themselves :) I LOVE your guys sense of humor & ambiance. So thanks for sharing it for the people who truly love being at your restuarant.
Lisa
Dear In Desperation:
I’m glad you got crabs in my restaurant!!! As for the recipe book…sure, as soon as I retire…(about 15 years) I’ll write a recipe book…until then, come and get it!!!
Um , I Don’t think I need to pass on your second paragraph…it sounds like they won’t be eating here any time soon…
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby
In lieu of Roger Clemens' ongoing difficulties, we were wondering if you have ever been caught with CGH (Crustacean Growth Hormone)? We notice your big buckets keep getting bigger and bigger. If you are required to do testing, how hard is it to get a lobster to pee in a cup?
Sincerely,
Kelly
Dear Kelly,
Crab and lobsters pee in my live tanks all the time. Therefore, if a need to test ever arises then all I need to do is sample the water.
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby
My name is Kelly and today is my 8th wedding anniversary. I wanted to go out for a nice dinner but my husband says that tasty crustaceans are too extravagant for an 8th anniversary. Now the cheap bastard says let's go out for "Krab". Please advise.
Sulking in San Clemente
Dear Sulking,
KKKKKKrabb....??? What The... Do you know why it's so cheap???...It's NOT CRAB.... K-RAB. Crab with a K..."K-rab is NOT real crab. Get rid of the cheap bastard...
CrAbby
Dear Crabby,
I will be turning 50, September 1st and have planned my stay in Pismo Beach to relax and celebrate. My problem is I have about 25 people who are following me to Pismo so they can watch me cross over into old age and they expect me to throw them a party. Do you know of anywhere in town where I can feed and water them on the cheap?
Thank you for your help.
Catherine
Dear Catherine,
Denny's.
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby.
You guys have obviously got a great sense of humour not to mention great crab. So we are coming from OZ mid July just to have lunch/dinner at your joint. Hope you have a table for two. Looking at the menu there is a good chance we may never leave!
Cheers, Rod and Susie Owens. Long Beach, Australia.
Dear Rod and Susie.
Let me know when you will be arriving so I can make a point of meeting two people from OZ. Maybe I’ll set a table for three…
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby,
I just wanted to let you know that every year we make the long trip to Pismo from South Lake Tahoe with about 12-16 people to camp and dirtbike. I honestly can say I am more excited to eat at the Cracked Crab then camping AND I LOVE camping. I can't wait. During the summer, what should I expect for a waiting time when we decide to come to dinner? Of note...there should be a Cracked Crab in SLT...can you open a shop here? PLEASE!
XO Jenny
XO Jenny,
It really feels good to hear from people that they appreciate our restaurant. Let me know what day, what time and how many people will be here and I’ll get something set up so you won’t have to wait too long.
If I open one in SLT who would be here to get your party seated in July???
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby,,
Received your menu. Thank you. Only problem - it made me very hungry for you seafood. Not a lot of fresh seafood in the midwest. The only fresh meat comes with hoofs.
Thanks again, and hope you're recovering okay from your surgery.
Jack

Dear CrAbby,
Are you allowed to use that name? Doesn't it piss off Dear Abby?
Gonna tell on you...
Snitch
Dear Snitch,
I'm using it.
Tell Dear Abby to email me, I'll give her some advice.
CrAbby
Dear Crabby:
WOOHOOO!! My brother just invited me to meet him in Pismo/SLO for a New Years vacation!
Can you reccommend a decent place to get crabs?
haha! kidding.
This will be our second time getting crabs from you guys! I bought a shirt last time, and whenever I wear it I hear people snickering behind me as they read where I got crabs! :)
Ok, enough hygiene jokes. (haha)
I know its only November, but I can't wait to get up there and stuff myself with crab! I was reading your menu, and now I think we'll have to join you for lunch too! I came up with an idea, though. In all the kitchens I've ever worked in the cooks make their own meals from whatever is on the menu. So maybe you could hire me for a week
while I'm there and I can be on a lunchbreak the whole time and eating free crab! Seriously though, I am looking forward to ordering the soft-shell crab, and every letter you respond to about them just makes me salivate that much more! See how crazy I already am! I need crab!
Crawling your way soon,
Crabless in Palm Springs
Dear Crabless,
I don't need another cook that is always on lunch break.
CrAbby
hey crabby!
we were there this weekend for the festival of clams, for the second year in a row, and my, oh my! what a time we had!
let's back this story up just a little bit. my pal mikey has been coming down to pismo from the s.f. bay area since he was seventeen. he's a geezerly ol' 50 something now. welp, he loves it so much, that when he got married, he started bringing his lovely bride down too! now, he's got myself and my s.o. hooked too.
mikey tries every restaurant in town, almost. he has a running list, and he remembers everything. mikey was kind enough to share your little gem of a restaurant with us. let's put it this way. we've all been waiting for a year for your crab bisque. i like to call it "Velvet Liquid In A Bowl". it is divine.
i'm a foodie myself, dabbling about in the kitchen throwing dinner parties watching foodtv and the like. in fact, we throw a huge cajun ya-ya every year, and this year, with what little crawdads we had left, i decided to make a crawdad bisque. i pulled out my culinary academy cookbook and was dismayed at all the drama that went into it. but i perservered and it was lovely, but not quite as velvety as your sublime crab bisque. it was good, i just wasn't purring like i do when i eat at your humble abode.
so this is the deal. our lovely server gal, said if i wrote to you, that you would give me the recipe? is this true? i'm salivating at the thought of it. and don't think for one minuto that we won't come back, cuz there is just too many dishes on your menu that i've just gotta try. my pals are anxiously awaiting the news. will there be crab bisque, or won't there? only your hairdresser knows fer sure.
thanks ever so,
ms. norma jean
Dear Norma,
Here's the deal. We send you the bisque recipe, you invite us to your next ya-ya.
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby,
I was last in the restaurant on Thursday, (my birthday) and you mentioned we should check out your web site. I have to say, those nay sayers be [gone]. Who cares if there are mispellings? I found the web site to be personable, friendly and enjoyable. Just like being at the restaurant itself. Keep up the good work!
Teena ~
Dear Teena,
it’s spelled ‘misspellings’.
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby,
I was in your restaurant the other day and saw a sign you had posted by the front door that stated something about the State of California being "over-legislated". What's up with that?
We did enjoy the awesome food, service and ambiance!
State Employee
Dear State Employee,
For all of my readers I will post the actual sign here:
ALL WARNING SIGNS ARE REQUIRED BY THE OVER-LEGISLATED STATE OF CALIFORNIA
(Do we really need a $36 billion deficit to pay people to come up with these ideas?)
That sign, which I wrote, is posted under the one required to post we serve unsafe, unhealthy food, referring to possible mercury in fish, but never saying that. AND across from the one warning about drinking alcohol, just under the sign stating we must keep our doors unlocked during business hours, across the hall from the one informing customers they may ask to see our health report, which is next to the one about oysters could kill you, which is under our business license, health permit, liquor license, sellers permit and the sign about what to do if you hear the sirens go off warning that Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant just blew up, making confetti out of all these signs.
Really CrAbby
Dear CrAbby
Just read your menu and I am wondering why you said..."If you have never tried soft shelled crab, we suggest you try something else"............
Soft shell crab is a delicacy that is very expensive. Most people that
have never tried soft shell crab by the time they are an adult do not
like it and end up sending it back. For those who would like to try soft
shell crab for the first time, I suggest you buy some and cook it at
home. That way I don't pay for the cost of your first experience with
soft shell crab should you find you don't like it.
CrAbby
Interesting............................Why don't people like it?
We will be in your area the beginning of next week and hope to enjoy dining at the Cracked Crab!!
It is served whole, shell, legs, guts and all. I love it, some people just can't handle eating the whole crab.

Dear CrAbby,
I did not appreciate having my dinner dumped on my table. Are you a barbarian?, or just stupid? ....your restaurant won’t last very long....
Dear Un-appreciative,
Can you read? Why did you order the item that states "dumped on your table" right on the menu?.
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby
I read an article in The Tribune about you getting a Christmas tree stolen. In the article they quoted you as saying you were going to donate this live tree to charity after the holidays. Which charity did you donate the tree to?
Kristen
Dear Kristen
Are you blonde? The tree was stolen. OK, I’m just kidding, my wife is blonde, I like blondes.
CrAbby
Dear CrAbby
Such a neat web site, but . . . "As we build this web site, you can learn more about more, including product, service and us." You may not be the best in the grammar department, but you do have outstanding food, atmosphere and waiters.
Phil
Dear Phil
I know my writing isn’t grammatically correct, it’s my style. I don’t think you could call our serving style proper either
